Deck of Cards Hat/Headband

To go along with my 10 of hearts sandwich board costume (see this post), I also made this hat/headband from playing cards. The hat was a huge hit. My students all thought it was really cool. They were impressed that I made it myself.

Steps to follow:

1. I used a red headband that I bought at the Dollar Tree, so my first step was to cut off the hearts that were originally attached to it.

2. Create the base. I had to be the number 10 for my costume, so I didn't use any 10s for the base. I used 12 cards to make the base. I put a strip of hot glue diagonally across the front of the playing card and then stuck the next card to the glue and continued on from there in a fan shape until I had made a circle. It didn't make a complete circle, but by the time I got to the Ace, the base seemed solid. I attached the Ace to the other cards in a few more places.

3. Make the top of the hat by slightly bending the cards into a half circle. I put hot glue on the right front edge of all the cards and glued them together into a circle. I used 7 cards to make the circle.

4. Intertwine the red and silver pipe cleaners.

5. Attach the top of the hat to the base with hot glue. I put the top on the base and just put the glue around it. Immediately add the pipe cleaners into the hot glue to hide the glue and add a bit of decoration.

6. Embellish by placing the heart, diamond, and pearl stickers all over the cards.

7. Attach the hat to the headband with hot glue right at the top of the headband and in the bottom center of the card base.

Finished!
